Buying guide

What company makes personalised children's books with photo?

Several. In the UK the main options are Raising Legends (premium hardback, hand-written stories, £29.99), Wonderbly (name-only avatars, £24.99 softback), Hooray Heroes (siblings and family, £29.90), and international AI-first services like Magical Hekaya and Lullaby.ink (digital-first from $4.99). If you specifically want a photo-based hardback book with a real story, Raising Legends is the closest fit.

How much does a personalised children's book cost in 2026?

Between £5 (digital-only PDF from an AI generator) and £60+ (bespoke luxury). The sweet spot for a proper hardback with photo-based personalisation is £25–£35. Raising Legends is £29.99 including free UK shipping.

Which personalised book is best for a birthday gift?

For a birthday you want something that lasts — a proper hardback, hand-written story, and gift wrap. Look for services that let you preview the book before paying. Raising Legends charges £29.99 + £3.99 optional gift wrap and ships tracked worldwide.

Can I get a personalised hardback shipped outside the UK?

Yes. Most on-demand printers (including Lulu, who prints for Raising Legends) have local printing plants in the US, EU, and Australia, so international shipping is normally 5–14 working days rather than weeks. Look for tracked shipping in the small print.

Safety & Privacy

Is my child's photo safe when I upload it?

It depends on the provider. Look for GDPR-compliant EU or UK storage, a clear deletion policy, and a promise that the photo isn't used to train models. Raising Legends stores photos encrypted in the EU, deletes them 90 days after your order ships, and never trains any AI on them.

Do personalised book companies train AI on my child's photo?

The reputable ones don't. The photo is used to generate the specific illustrations for your book and then discarded. If a company's privacy policy is vague on this — walk away.

Are personalised children's books COPPA compliant?

COPPA is a US regulation covering under-13s. UK-based services (like Raising Legends) fall under UK-GDPR, which has similar protections. The key thing to check is that the company treats the parent as the data controller for the child's data, and provides a clear deletion path.

How it works

How does the AI make my child look like themselves in the book?

The AI (a model called PuLID-Flux) learns your child's face structure — eye shape, skin tone, hair — from one clear front-facing photo. It then re-illustrates a character with those features across all 24 pages of the book. It's not photo compositing; it's a genuine hand-drawn-looking illustration that resembles your child.

What if the illustrations don't look right?

You preview the whole book before paying. If a page looks wrong, retry it — usually a second attempt gets it right. If you've paid and the printed book doesn't match the preview, we reprint or refund at your choice.

How long does it take from ordering to arriving?

The illustrations render in about 5 minutes. Once you pay, the book is printed in 2–3 days and shipped tracked: 3–7 working days in the UK, 5–10 to Europe and North America, 7–14 for Australia and rest-of-world.

Can my child's book be re-ordered as a gift later?

Yes. Your child's illustrated pages stay in your account. You can reorder the same book or gift a fresh copy to a grandparent without re-uploading anything.
